Happy Fall everyone! Well that is if you start fall on Sept 1st like we do. We had an incredible summer though and hope you all did, too. Here's a look back at some of the exciting adventures we had this summer...
Family Reunion in Michigan
We drove out to Michigan in early June for a family reunion on the Karavida side of our family. We stayed in Detroit and got to explore the newly built up downtown area before the reunion. If you have the chance, go explore it! It's beautiful down there now! We had a great time catching up with so many of our loved ones and actually meeting a lot of new family members, which was so cool! Before we headed back to Chicago, we visited Belle Isle, which we also recommend adding to your list of must-sees in Detroit.
Taste of Randolph
While we didn't make it to the Taste of Chicago this year, we did go to the Taste of Randolph! We really love the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago and we were so excited to check out this festival. We tried some really awesome food like meatballs from Formentos, spicy chicken from Nandos, and the famous chocolate s'mores cooler from Bombobar which is a part of Bar Siena.
4th of July
We hosted our first 4th of July BBQ for our family this summer! We're a very family-oriented family (also a very large Italian family) so we always do big get togethers for every holiday and birthday. We were lucky and got to host Thanksgiving at our house last year but 4th of July was also special because it was our first outside family get together! We finally got deck furniture so everyone was able to enjoy being out in our backyard while we ate all the yummy food that Caleb made.
Dog Days of Summer
Every summer our town hosts a festival called the Dog Days of Summer. We found out about it last year (our first summer living in Libertyville but were not able to attend due to our travel schedule) but this year we made a point of putting it on our calendar to block off the weekend to take Wrigley to enjoy a fest all about him. We went to brunch with him at Milwalky Trace, which if you live/visit the North Shore we highly recommend and then went to the fest. Wrigley made lots of friends, got tons of treats, and had the best time. We love doing special things with our pup and feel that it's so important to make time for these things to really bond with him. If you know of any other pet-friendly events in Chicago/the North Shore please share them with us!
Pacific Northwest Vacation
We went on our big annual vacation this year to the Pacific Northwest. We started out in Portland, OR and drove up to Seattle, WA. We incorporated some outside of the city days in to our trip, too like hiking in the Columbia River Gorge, hiking in Mt. Rainier National Park, and taking a road trip on US Routes 12 and 101 to Cannon Beach, OR. Way more details to come on this fantastic trip!
Baby Cabrera is coming!
The surprise is out...we're having a baby! I'm due at the end of January and all 3 of us can't wait to meet our little one (that we call Nugget). We found out at the end of May that I am pregnant and slowly shared the news with all of our friends and family all summer long. Finally at the beginning of August we made the news public on social media. But if you don't follow along on our channels, well now you know! We do not know the gender of the baby yet but, yes, we do plan to find out. We're coming up on that milestone soon, so stay tuned to find out what Nugget will be!
What fun things did you all do this summer? We love hearing about all your adventures, too so please leave us comments on your favorite thing you did this summer!
